Description: newaimenby Jordan Garnerstudents, teachers adjust to demands of combined scheduleshat schedule do you have for thissemester, son?I have a block-hyrbrid-reversed-switched schedule. My first twoclasses are two hours long and the restare 20 minutes. The first year of the switch from anall traditional scheduleto a combination oftraditional, block andhybrid schedulesbrought confusion forteachers and studentsalike. Block classeswere 90 minutes eachwhile traditionalclasses remained 55minutes.Both block andtraditional classeswent on at the sametime and many teachers taught classesin both schedules. Its hard to teach both [block andtraditional] during the same day, and itseasy to get mixed up on which class youare teaching. Sometimes I forget whatclasses have tests and which ones dont,Mr. Matt Hoagland, social studies, said.Adjusting to the length of the blockclasses and accomplishing the task offinishing a one-year course in onesemester was challenging for some6 iyiy friends who arein block really feellike they forget morethings and are fartherbehind the people intraditional.^ -junior Jess Winingerstudents.Sitting in geometry for 90 minutes isokay at first, but after a while you justwant to fall asleep, freshman JeffCarter said. The quickened pace of the blockclasses seemed to affect some studentsand teachers morethan others. Many of thestudents feel that wego too fast, but theyhave to work hard andkeep pace, Mrs. CindyKvale, science, said.My friends who arein block really feel likethey forget more thingsand are farther behindthe people intraditional, juniorJess Wininger said.It seemed as though which learningenvironment was better depended uponthe student as well as the class. It is a different learning experiencefor each one, neither is really better, sophomore Lina Morris said.Art classes are great for blockbecause you have much more time to getout your project and materials, and workwith them before you have to put themaway, junior Kyle Parker said.®oing his Englishhomework, sophomoreCharlie Laughlin sitsKatie Sheehancomfortably in study hall.
