Theanticipation in theair indicates its notjust any Friday. Thebells sound loud andclear, and the shoutsof students crowdinginto the hallways fillthe air withexcitement.Spring breakbegan, the weekeveryone had beenwaiting for allwinter. Studentstook advantage of thetime for rest,relaxation andtravel.Many studentsheaded south towarmer weather andsunshine whileothers headed westto powder and greatskiing conditions.Even the studentswho stayed homeenjoyed the freedomfrom school, givingthem a chance tocatch up on sleep andjust hang out.I went to Ft.Myers with myfriend and herfamily, and it wasgreat being able torelax on the beachand having nohomework or worriesfor a week,sophomore ReneeHollinger said. Also,a lot of funny thingshappened—likeLacey Mehalechkorunning into asliding glass doorand hurting her noseand watchingJarrett Huntdancing to 2-Pac infront of bunches ofpeople.A group of teenswent with CampusLife to the Bahamas.We worked hardevery day for at leastthree hours helpingto fix up theAdventure LearningCenter at Nassau.We built boardwalksfor wetland viewing,painted and cleanedthe childrens homeand removed fallentrees and otherdebris, senior TylerDavis said. It feltgood to do somethingworthwhile on myspring break; we hada lot of fun, too. Iwas there with otherstudents from Southand the wholeexperience was agood one.Even the kids whoremained nearbyfound ways to have agood time.Six friends and Iwent camping at RedRiver Gorge inKentucky for acouple of days. Weall piled into a mini-van and took offwithout evenknowing where wewere going to campor anything. We allhad a lot of fun,senior Kevin Whitesaid. It was reallyfunny one nightwhen Chris Keckstarted chasing AlanDeLuce around butran into a huge treeand got a huge redbump on hisforehead. The bestthing was we coulddo whatever wewanted for a wholeweek; no parentsinvolved was also aplus.Students spenttheir spring breakhaving fun andgetting away from itall.
