By AndreaMorrisHippies, hair and lots of hoopla fill thehallways during homecoming weekDuring the weekof homecoming onecouldnt turn aroundwithout hearingplans for outfits towear for spirit daysor gossip about whowas taking whom tothe dance.School spirit waseverywhere, in crazyspirit week outfits,the walls decoratedby different clubsand the talk of whowas to be king andqueen.The week beforethe dance wasdedicated to spiritdays. Studentsdressed to fit thecorresponding days.There was clash day,twin day, funky hairday, hippie day andpurple and whiteday. Many studentstook part and showedtheir school spirit.Spirit week waspretty cool; I had funlaughing at everyonewho dressed up.There were a lot offunny costumes forhippie day,sophomore SarahGuy said.On Fridayafternoon, studentsheaded toward thefootball field for apep rally.The homecomingcourt was introduced,and the studentslaughed as the courtmembers raced towrap each other intoilet paper.Student Councilmembers threwcandy and waterballoons into thestands as thecheerleaders led theschool in groupcheers to geteveryone fired up.The pep rallywas more depressingthan uplifting.Throwing randomobjects doesnt giveme the pep it usedto, senior DannyCompton said.Besides candy,sophomore EwanSchmid threw a pieat the winner of thepie in the facecontest, Mr. ChrisSellers, science.The football teamdefeated BroadRipple 64-6 laterthat evening.It was kind ofpathetic. We scoredthree touchdowns inthe first twominutes. We kickedtheir butts. It wasntmuch of a challenge,senior Keely Stevenssaid.During halftimethe homecomingcourt was presented.Last years queenMcKenzie May,passed her crown tosenior DaphneHouze.The theme of thedance on Saturdayevening wasEgyptian, and thedecorations includedpalm trees,hieroglyphics, starsand a moon.The dance wasreally great. Thegym looked reallynice with all of thedecorations andlights, juniorJennifer Robertssaid.After a couple ofhours of dancing themusic wasmomentarily stoppedfor the announcement of thehomecoming king.The court gatheredin front of the crowdand senior DanielClaybrook wascrowned king.
