I got in a lot better shape because of it(fitness walking). But our meals turned intodisasters. Forintersession, theychose to do an independent projectwith the ClearCreek Christianchurch.I job shadowed John Shrader, aSports Medicine Trainer at IU. Itwas fun and a good learningexperience. I know its a waysdown the road, but I think I founda career field.junior Heather IngramFor intersession I was on theFrench exchange trip. Truly anincredible experience. It has leftme with such fond memories ofMr. Bowen falling down a flightof stairs while racing BillLaughlin in Normandy; Dr.Riggle having to catch a plane at4 a.m. due to a cancelation theday before; and a lot of Frenchstuff too. I only wish I couldhave stayed longer; the threeweeks flew by like nothing.junior Neil KlopfensteinI did Exploratory Teaching atby Ashley HeydtChilds with Mrs. Crane (musicteacher). It was a lot of fun. Thekids were great. The funniestthing we did was teach secondgraders how to country linedance, and when they had to holdhands, I heard the boys yell thatthe girls had cooties.junior Heather BlandI took Exploring the Internet.We designed our own web pagesand looked for interesting andcool sites to visit. It was a lot offun and I learned a lot about WebPublishing.senior Rick AyresI went on an independentproject and helped build housesin Kentucky. It was a greatexperience and a lot of fun. JonVoge ate a grub we found for $25.The only bathrooms we had wereouthouses, and the doors didnthave locks. Sometimes peopleforget to knock.sophomore Todd RigginsI took Backpacking in theAppalachians. I thought it wasreally cool. It was neat that welived off the land for a week. Wegot to see stuff we normallywouldnt see at school. At onepoint we were running around amountain playing the pots wecooked with, then we climbedup on a big ledge and tried tothrow Peter Park off of it.senior Neil MichalaresI went to Cranks Creek SurvivalCenter in Kentucky to buildhouses for people whose houseswere ruined by floods. I learneda lot, but I would have liked tostay longer and get more workdone.sophomore Amy Quillman£Nnvduring a passing period,students crowd the threeremaining staircases as theypush their way to their nextclass. Jackhammers sound asthe teacher passes out tests, anda cold draft comes in from eachcrack in the dry wall.The $33 million renovation,scheduled to be completed in1999, has caused some annoyance as well as excitement toarise. However, upperclassmenwere disappointed because theconstruction was such alengthy process.Junior Jennifer Harden said,I dont like it because by theRenovation Milestones•Classrooms in the newwestside addition•New commons area thatattaches to the academic area,gym and auditoriumtime it is done, Ill be gone.Senior Ann Lasocki said,Ive had to put up with all thenoise and dirt, but I dontreceive any of the benefits.The renovation was aninconvenience to most studentsand teachers since the noiseseemed to be one of the majorproblems. Students were oftenunable to hear their teachersvoice over the droll of theconstruction equipment.Junior Tim Sharpe said, Allmy classes were harder intesting situations because of thenoise.Junior Brandy Robertson•New performaing arts additionbehind the auditorium.•The tennis/football facility witha new track, lights andscoreboard.ONsaid, My sixth period classwas really noisy. They wouldbang hammers all period, andwe couldnt get any workdone.Other temporary changes inthe building also annoyed thestudents. Students returnedfrom spring break to find awhole new entrance to themain office stairwell.Sophomore Jocelyn Holdensaid, I cant get used to nothaving a lobby. It gives me aheadache.Sophomore Lindsay Hackersaid, I dont like how theytook out a stairwell.Despite lack of climatecontrol and noise pollution,students and teachers survivedthe adjustment and continuedin the normal routine withlectures, homework and exams.by Catherine Bosinand Amanda RitchieHenr\ RmbflA worker stands near the beams that outline the new commons area.
