Students thenwalked down a long redcarpet to enter the areaof festivities.The theme wasportrayed by movieposters, flashing lightsand two life-size replicasof Oscar statues.The atmosphere wascompleted by the bandReal Eyes, who played acombination of covermusic and originals.Senior ElaineBroderick said, Theband wasnt all thatgreat. They attempted toplay cover music, but itdidnt work, and theyonly played two slowsongs.Real Eyes steppedaside for a moment to leta local band, TheCitations, play theirrendition of Fight foryour Right by theBeastie Boys.Senior Laurie Hawkessaid, The best part waslistening to the Citationsplay.The dancing crowdwas silenced around 11p.m. when the PromCourt was announcedby junior class sponsor,Mrs. Beth Smith, foreignlanguage. The Courtmembers were juniorsMark Fisher, HeidiHenrich, Bill Laughlin,Amber Martindale,Kathy McGill, SarahMcKeen, JonathanRipley, Zach Shoup,Emily Touloukian,Kathy Watson andAdam Yost.The former king andqueen, seniors AdamFarrell and Kelli Wilson,were invited forward tocrown the new royalcouple, McKeen andLaughlin.McKeen said, I wassurprised that I wasqueen. It was weirdbeing in the spotlight,but I enjoyed my 15minutes of fame.As prom came to anend, girls returned totables to locate theirpurses and corsageswhile guys looked fortheir tux jackets. Theybegan to search forenergy to begin theirpost prom activities,Students were able toparticipate in activitiessuch as sumo wrestling,the bungee run andseveral raffles.Senior Ashley Woodsaid, My favorite thingabout prom was the TV.I won a little TV in theraffle at post prom.After eating the freepizza, popcorn, sodasand candy, post promparticipants often left forother activities. Somestudents skipped postprom altogether and hadseparate plans.Junior Vicky Reevessaid, We went down tothe lake on myJunior Geeta Khakar tries to hit as many balloons as possible to winmoney to increase her chances for the raffle. The raffle was held at theend of the post prom with prizes including a TV and a VCR.which carried into theearly morning andbeyond.AFTER PROMStudents faced a widevariety of options forentertainment after thedance. Some studentsparticipated in postprom, but most madeseparate plans with theirfriends or significantother.The post prom, Up,Up, and Away, washosted by the juniorclass parents and held atthe National GuardArmory.boyfriends boat, and Istayed out until four orfive when he had towork.Broderick said,After prom, I fellasleep and I didntmake it to post prom.After participating inafter-prom activitiesthat lasted until themorning and beyond,some students were stillable to keep theireyelids from falling tomake it to breakfast atDennys, Waffle Houseor Steak n Shake.prom 21I |
