Cries of joyand the rumblingsounds of running feetfill the crowded halls. Atlast, it is summer.Summer meantThibos traveled with herfamily to Australia,South Africa andEngland. She said, Itwas an utterly amazingtrip. Though their stay was in Cambridge, England, they took afew days to tour Paris.freedom from classes,teachers and endlesshomework. They havetheir own way of doingthings and dont want tobe like Americans,Vanzant said.Numerous studentsattended camps or otherorganized activities overthe summer.Senior WendyWatkins participated inGirls State at IndianaState University in TerreHaute, where they setup a mock government.Watkins learned how tospeak in front of anaudience and met someof the other 800representatives from allover Indiana.Senior NathanPodsakoff participatedin Boys State, which issimilar to Girls State.Podsakoff met newpeople and heard guestspeakers, includingGovernor Evan Bayh.The worst part waswhen I got heatpoisoning, Podsakoffsaid.Junior Nick Voakeswent on a bike trip witha group at school calledDecycles. The coursewas 500 miles and tooka week to complete.Voakes said, I learnedhow much you canpush your body whenyou need to.Junior DeannaFierman spent onemonth studying Russianat Concordia LanguageVillages in Minnesota.Everyday Fiermanattended class, participated in activities andate Russian food.Fierman said, It wasone of the mostincredible experiencesof my life.Students summerexperiences varied butat the end of thesummer, all had toreturn again to classes,and endless homework.What incidentfrom thesummer standsout the most?UWe were atBryan Park havinga water balloonfight and the parksecurity came.They told us to stopand they made usclean everythingup. The securityinformed us thatthe park had closedat 11:30 p.m., andwe could be fined$75 for littering.•seniorKatie WiseMy friend and Iwere driving in anice neighborhood in Indyaround 11:30.
