Description: Cooperate to Survive ChaosThe light breeze of chaos began blowing through Bloomington High School South during the 1995-96school year. Head meteorologist and South Principle, Dr. Mike Riggle, forecast the wind would blow into a full-force, tormenting hurricane next school year. For more than five years we have fought for the renovation of our 31 year-old building, Riggle said. This spring the Board of School Trustees approved an addition and the full renovation of BHS South, with aproject budget of approximately 38 million dollars.Much of Dr. Riggles time was spent this year working with architects planning the renovation andbuilding addition. This project will bring the chaos and disorder of construction combined with the daily taskof providing a high school education for the students of our district, said Riggle. It will not be easy.Teachers and students alike have been used to a relatively quiet atmosphere at South. We are headedinto a time when attempting to have a normal school day will be impossible. All of us are going to have to worktogether and cooperate to survive the chaotic environment that South will become, Riggle commented.Attitudes will make all the difference in the world. We will get to the point where people will feel this messwill never end; we must be positive and approach things with a can do attitude. This will change for the better,he said. How we treat each other is probably moreimportant than how fast the construction proceedsand just as important as how well the building isconstructed, said Riggle.Planning for classroom space has been adifficult problem to solve this year. Students willhave classes in rooms that were not designed asschool rooms, said Riggle. The entire west end ofthe main building will be unavailable next year. Anew three story addition will be built on that side ofthe building; rooms presently outside will becomeanother bank of interior classes.Planning for this chaos has been paramontthis year. I think we are as ready as we will ever befor next fall and the beginning of our test of enduringthis creative chaos, said Riggle.Alvarez, MarieArthur, JoannAult, JanBan, EricBeyers, CrissBlair, DaveBoles, BarbaraBowen, ToddBranam, DebraBruton, E.J.G220/Album
