It wasgraduation day fortheclass of 1996!Studentspeakers urged theirclassmates to havean effect upon thefuture. As we passdown the aisle,through the doors,into a bright springday and into thecooling water (ofShowalter Fountain),we are on thethreshold of the realworld. Plan for thefuture because that iswhere you will spendthe rest of your life,said senior ScottCaulfield in hiswelcoming speech.Graduationshould not be thoughtof as the end of anera, but as a newbeginning. Weare thefuture leaders and weare ready to lead,said Morey Barnes.Withoutstretched armsand emotion in hisvoice, Dr. Riggle said,I present to you thegraduating class of1996. Still seeking tomotivate thegraduates, the futureis something to beachieved. You havechoices to make;revisit your dreams,he urged.Citing GeorgeWills, Riggle told thegraduates, Thefuture has a way ofarrivingunannounced,andthen urged, Dontwait for your future,get out there andmake it happen.The class of1996 has left theirmark on South. With367 members therewere sixvaledictorians, 45Indiana AcademicHonors Diplomasrecipients, 66Presidents Scholars,and two IndianaUniversity WellsScholars.Valedictorians were:Anne Freeman,Phoebe Hanshew,Cody Jerden, KevinReigeluth, JesseSanders, and SarahSmith.Bill Lumbley,class sponsor,concluded theceremony with wordsfrom Dr. Seuss Oh!The Places YoullGo. ... and will yousucceed?
