The renovation will also result in ten tenniscourts, according to Huggins. The basketball court willbe increased to regulation size with more seating andthree-lane fitness track around the upper perimeter ofthe gymnasium, Huggins said.The cafeteria will be totally reworked, and thenew cafeteria will have more of a food court atmosphere,he noted. New lockers will be increased to 12 inches by12 inches by six feet tall. In addition, the renovation willinclude two elevators, a commons area, more parkingspaces and air conditioning.According to Huggins, the renovation is going tobe a messy project. Students can expect to deal withsome inconveniences during the three-year constructionperiod and will have to put up with some bothersomethings, Principal Mike Riggle said. Every effort will bemade to maintain a nonintrusive educational environment,according to Huggins.By August 1997, Riggle hopes to have moved intothe new parts of the building and expects increasedexcitement.The bids from contractors for all projects need to beaccepted as the next step in renovation, Riggle explained,before construction can begin. The Weddle Brothersconstruction Co. bid has been accepted by the schoolboard for the construction management of the project.Until spring 1996, Riggle said many items like firecodes and handicapped accessibility need to be approvedby the state.Opening / A3 |
