All sixteen students havemaintained a 4.0 GPA through the first sevensemesters of high school.They are: Ellee Austin, Angela Bast,Heidi Brown, Diana Coffa, Robert Comingore,Travis Curry, Joe Hodgkiss, Jennifer Irwin,Karen Jaffee, Hilary Keen, John Lind, JenniferMackey, Kellie Parker, Joey Richards, HankSelke and Matt Strother.Ellee AustinAustins activities include Student Council,of which she is co-president; National HonorSociety (NHS), of which she is vice president;Leadership Opportunities Through Service(LOTS); 4-H; the School ImprovementCommittee; the wind ensemble; and varsitysoccer, of which she was captain. She alsoheaded a PBA/North Central committee andvolunteers at the Girls ClubAustin was a Hoosier Youth Salute finalistand attended the national Youth LeadershipConference last fall. She was named Youth ofthe Month by the Exchange Club and Studentof the Month by The Herald-Times. Austinwill attend Emory University in Atlanta, GA.Angela BastBast is Senior Editor-in-Chief of theyearbook. She is a member of the pom squad;Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA); NHS;and LOTS.Bast was nominated by her teacher to winthe Whos Who All-American Award. Shewas given the B-Woman award by the pomsquad this year and her freshman year, as wellas being named All-American and All-Star atpom camp this year. She is also a member ofQuill and Scroll, international honor societyfor high school journalists. Bast was alsonamed a B97 Tomorrows Leaders, andStudent of the Month by the Rotary Club andExchange Club. Bast will be attending IndianaUniversity and will major in Biology.Heidi BrownBrown has participated in Sounds of South,NHS. Student Council and band.She has performed with the BloomingtonSymphony Orchestra, New World ChamberOrchestra, All-State Orchestra, and NationalHigh School Honors Orchestra.A B97 Tomorrows Leader, Brown hasserved as vice president and treasurer ofStudent Council and was sophomore classtreasurer.Brown has won scholarships from theIndiana Federation of Music Clubs, and fromInterlochen Arts Camp. She won the BloomingtonSymphony Orchestra Concert Competition this year.She will attend Harvard University, majoring inmolecular biology and music.Diana CoffaCoffa has been a member of Student Council, ofwhich she is co-president; NHS, of which she is theservice committee chairperson; Academic Decathlon;Science Olympiad; School Improvement Committee;a PBA committee; and the wind ensemble.Coffa was named a National Merit Scholar, anIndiana Academic All-Star. and The Herald-TimesStudent of the Month. She placed third in the speechcategory of the Academic Decathlon nationals andearned the teams highest score in that competition.Coffa will attend Rice University in Houston, Texas.Robert ComingoreComingore has participated in cross country andtrack at South. He was named Fall Athlete of theSeason and competed in the Junior Olympics thisyear, placing second in the nation.Comingore was Junior Advisor Board treasurerand is a member of the Senior Advisory Board. Heis a LOTS senior, president of NHS, a Teen Mentorand a member of FCA.Comingore plans to attend Berry College in GeorgiaTravis CurryCurry plans to attend Purdue University. He is amember of NHS and has been a member of the SouthPep Band for two year.Joe HodgkissHodgkiss has participated in Latin Club, NHS, andTheatre Souths production of Peter Pan. He wasnamed Student of the Month by the Rotary Club thisyear and was designated a B97 Tomorrows Leader.Hodgkiss will attend Indiana University, althoughhe was named a Notre Dame Scholar at the Universityof Notre Dame.Jennifer IrwinIrwin has participated in Sounds of South; StudentCouncil, of which she is secretary; Hoosier GirlsState; All-State Choir; NHS; and LOTS. She wasclass secretary her sophomore and junior years.A B97 Tomorrows leader, Irwin is a member ofTri-M Music Society; and she participated in acommunity musical this year.Irwin will attend Denison University in Ohio.Karen JaffeeJaffee will attend Washington University in St.Louis and plans to major in business.Jaffee has been a member of the cross country andtrack teams, earning seven varsity letters. She hasbeen a member of Student Council, NHS, SeniorAdvisory Board, LOTS, the PBA CurriculumCommittee, and Theatre South. Jaffee has served aspresident and programming vice president of heryouth group and was named a B97 Tomorrowsleader.Hilary KeenKeen has been a cheerleader for four years, two ofwhich she was on the varsity squad. She has been onthe softball team four year, serving as captain thisyear; and she was on the volleyball team oneyear. She is a member of NHS and LOTS senior,she went to Hoosier Girls State, and she has beena member of the yearbook staff two year.Keen will attend Indiana University.John LindLind will attend Northwestern University andplans to major in biological sciences.Lind has been a member of the golf and tennisteams, Quill and Scroll, and NHS. He participatedin both the Hoosier Academic Super Bowl andProblem Solving teams, is Managing Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook, and has been a member ofSpanish Club and his church youth group.Lind attended Hoosier Boys State, has wonboth the B-Man and captain awards for tennis,and was elected twice as a member of the WinterCourt.Jennifer MackeyMackey has participated in soccer, track, crosscountry and is a LOTS senior. She is a memberof NHS and president of her 4-H club. Mackeywill attend Purdue University, from which shereceived a valedictorians scholarshipKellie ParkerParker moved to Bloomington last year, so shehas attended South her senior year, only. She isa member of NHS and was also a member of theScience Olympiad team that won the statecompetition. She is a student leader for CampusLife and was chosen Student of the Month by TheHerald-Times.Parker will attend Indiana University.Joey RichardsRichards, a junior, is graduating a year early.He was a member of the Science Olympiad teamfor two years, as well as being a member ofStudents Against Drunk Driving, and a TeenMentor. Richards will attend MassachusettsInstitute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.Hank SelkeSelke was a member of the football and baseballteams for one year and has been a member of theBloomington Blades four years, two of which hewas captain. He was named to the Academic All-State team for hockey and has been a member ofNHS, a LOTS senior, aB97 Tomorrowss Leader,a high school DARE role model, and an alternatedelegate to Hoosier Boys State.Selke will attend Indiana University, majoringin chemistry.Matt StrotherStrother has participated in science fair fouryear, reaching the state level three of those year.He won first place at state this year and advancedto nationals for the second time.Strother has been a member of the JV soccerteam, NHS, and Student Council.
