Most of her students have beeninvolved with acting since elementary school and intend to continuestudying theater in college. Catherine Springer believes that acting is anart form to be enjoyed by everyone whether they are in the center stageor in the audience. While a performance may appear effortless andconvincing, there is a lot of hard work behind the scenes and the Southdrama students are enthusiastic about learning the art of acting and theactual performances. Steel Magnolias and Peter Pan were the majorproductions this year for Theater South in which many drama studentswere involved. They were a tremendous success and an exciting learningexperience for all.Mrs. Springer, the head of the Drama Program, is alwayslooking for new students with imagination, a clear voice, and a flair forthe dramatic. We are still looking for people with talent but it is hard tofind students who are not involved with other extra-curricular activities, says Springer. The program is a demanding one, therefore, all studentsshould be serious and committed to work.Drama classes are confidence-building as they provide studentswith a feeling of family. This class is a really good way to open up,according to senior David Barber. Who knows which of there faces weWill be Watching in the future. story by Vicky Barnes82/ACTIVITIES |
