Description: .inning andLeadership....a TraditionBloomington Souths Spell Bowl team starts off their yearlearning 3000 words. By learning those words, Souths Spell Bowlteam made it to state competition once again. Spell Bowl is oneof our schools hidden treasures, said Matt Conrad. Not thatmany people know that for the last eight years South has won statecompetition, according to Conrad, a lot of credit is due to theircoach and sponsor Ruth Granich. After learning the 3000 words theteam goes out to compete at two different levels, regional and state.Ten members compete in each competition, spelling nine wordseach. This year South paced second at their state competition inMartinsville.Another group of students looking to improve the schooland the community is the Student council. Co-presidents DianaCoffa and Ellee Austin say that the main purpose of the group is toprovide a voice for the students. Also on the council are HiediBrown, Vice President; Jennifer Irwin, secretary and JohnLindenbaum, treasurer, along with other elected board membersand representatives.The student council is sponsored by Cathy Rush. Fundingfor the group is raised through dances, data match, homecoming,and winter court. I really enjoyed my 2 years as co-president,stated Ellee Austin.Each May the students hold their annual elections forstudent council. To get involved all interested students have to getpeer and teacher signatures on a petition.
