Students escape from schoolRight around March, it always seems that South students and faculty grow impatient for the arrival of theirwell-deserved spring break. Some start buying suntan lotion, some purchase newskis, and others just shop fora comfortable pillow for aweek of lying on the couch, watching those great reruns.Last year, everyone began tomake plans and wait anxiously for the final day. Wehad the van packed for Day-tona a week before we left, said junior Dusty Turner. It doesnt matter whereyou went for spring break, because wherever you were, you werent sitting in an uncomfortable seat, watchingthe kid next to you drool ashe slept on his homework. The great thing about springbreak was that it gave you233 and 1/2 hours away fromschool. I had missed allthose TV shows that are onduring the day, said Heather Morrison. But the week ended, andthe people in paradise had tocome home, and the peoplestill in bed had to wake upfrom their dream of the president calling off school forever. At least everyone had agood break and got to forgetabout that big report that isdue — for a little while, anyway. After spring break, wehad something better todream about during thoselong lectures: the memoriesof freedom and the promiseof next year.Lucas Allen washes up on shoreafter a long afternoon of body-surfing.Amy Turner and Paige Mosca smileas they drive away in Barney Rubbles car.Ginger Rink and Jennifer Nordlohshow off their stunning new look.STUDENT LIFE / 23A |
