Description: Every human begins life equal, as the product of life. Butas we walk our diverging paths, we find ourselvesalone. We search for something, for someone, to breakopen our shell, to let in light from another source. None canexist completely alone, but as we form our safe comfortablegroups, this unity of experience is quickly forgotten. Opposing forces battle to gain supremacy. Differing factionsdestroy themselves, and their environment over conflictinginterpretations. Governments war over careless words. At this time in history, with the world in our living rooms, our backyards, with billions of words of information fromevery locale flooding into us to be processed, we sometimesbecome dulled to the great responsibility coming from knowledge. Peering out from our small, darkly lit dwellings, weoften ignore those things which differ from ourselves. Oursight may fog under the misty clouds of our feelings, ourinterpretations, or our hopes and fears. Each day of our lives we are forced to make comparisons, judgements, and evaluations. These decisions shape notonly the present of ourselves and those around us, but, moredramatically, our futures. Through our past, we may engineera new beginning — forging love from our divisions of hatred, building peace from the ravages of war, and developingrespect from the snares of contempt. As we live today, on a world teeming with people ofdiffering race, culture, religion, size, intelligence, and viewpoint, we must realize that our angle of vision is not alwaysthat of others. In our world of vibrant color, its not all blackand white.in color...South students rush onto the fieldto celebrate the football teams sectional victory.2/OPENING■
