Description: LOTS: A week-long learning experienceSeniors are plagued bythe fact that they arestill a step away from adulthood; yet, a step aboveadolescence. Fifth gradersmust endure the pinches ofgrandmothers who believethem to still be little kids.Seniors and fifth gradersboth are struggling througha transition period. Maybethat is why the LOTS(Leadership OpportunitiesThrough Service) seniorsand the fifth graders getalong so well during theirweek at Bradford Woods.MCCSC fifth graders liveat the IU owned BradfordWoods for a week underthe supervision of over 100seniors, chosen from Southand North.In order to prepare forthis week-long adventure,the seniors attended athree day retreat in mid-August. At this time, theseniors learned songs,games, and rules on thecare of the fifth graders.They also received adviceon how to handle commonsituations such as homesickness.The Bradford Woods program for fifth graders helpsdevelop their cooperation.Not only is it important forthe seniors to get along,but it is also important forus to see how others mustlearn to get along. Beingwith the kids at BradfordWoods helped me to understand a process that Ihad taken for granted,commented Pat Lumbley.The program also provides some valuable lessons and experiences forthe seniors. Brenna Bodnarsaid, The experience ofworking with children in anunrestrictive environment issomething I can draw uponlater in life. Erin McGarveyhad such a positive experience, that she has maintained her contact withthe kids. I had a positiveexperience getting toknow the kids, and being arole model for them.All we all here?
