In thefirst round of the statefinals it was again Pantheragainst Panther, withNorth Central winning andeventually becoming thestate champions.Five times during theseason South won all matches in dual competition,beating opponents 5-0.Kristy Thomas, leadsingles, was undefeated in22 matches this season.Her only two defeats cameat the hands of the statesingles champ. Thomas, ajunior, has a high schoolrecord of 57 wins and onlyseven losses.Sometimes its morenervewracking to be watchingthe game than to be playing.Coach Cathy Terrell anxiouslywaits to talk to Erin McGarveyand Leigh Gee during theirdoubles match at Semi-state.Many people feel that one ofthe benefits of participating inathletics is the opportunity itprovides to make friends fromother schools.
