■n-l.f.* .I Thoughts on LOTSLOTS is the abbreviation for Leadership OpportunityThrough Service. It is a program designed to bringtogether fifth graders, who spend a week at BradfordWoods, and seniors from North and South high schools, who act as their counselors while at camp. The fifthgraders are given the opportunity to get to know and tobecome friends with the high school students. One ofthe many things the seniors benefit from the experienceis to make friends and to learn responsibility while working with fifth graders for a week. However, it is the participants themselves who are able to best express theirfeelings about LOTS. • wT* ^-^ ■ y *■*LOTS is a veryrewarding ex- Hperience. You forgethow young fifthgraders are and how •-*much they look up to *you.be aagai nShieldsI would gladlycounselor Angiewas one of the best experiences I have ever had. It was aweek of hard work and high energy levels that left metotally exhausted at the end, but it was worth it. AmyClendening.LOTS was fun, but hard because the counselors had atendency to want to act like the kids. We had todiscipline sometimes when we really felt like acting up.Julie McCullough. The experience I had at LOTS camp was one I am glad Ihad the opportunityto be a part of. I felt Iplayed an importantrole in the kids liveswhile at BradfordWoods. JennyForshee. It was an excellentlearning experience, not just a position ofleadership, but as apart of a group working together. Campwas very useful, all ofa sudden you were incharge of all of thesekids, having to keepall of them safe, together, or asleep. Itwas a big jobsometimes, butGold! It allows thestudent to get a tasteof the outdoors in away many peoplenever experience. For the LOTS personit stresses responsibility and allowsyou to return to a fifth grader and pass on some of theknowledge you have gained. I would say to anyone whowants to go, go! You will be a great help to the staff andbesides, the training session is one big party! FrankChristenberry.Besides the fun I had at Bradford Woods, it was interesting to see how the fifth graders reacted to differentsituations. Also, going back to Bradford Woods broughtback many memories. David Ray.Its amazing what you can learn from fifth graders. ItLOTS has been a really great experience. During campin August with the other LOTS members from bothschools, we really got together. It was the first time thatwe worked as a class A group for the good of ourselvesand others. Even boundaries between North and Southwere broken down some. Now, after several meetings,no boundaries exist. Holly Mull.66 LOTS |
