Description: CouncilpromoteschangeInnovation and changecharacterized the 1986-87Bloomington High School SouthStudent Council. Every projectwe undertook this year waseither a variation on an oldtheme or a completely newidea, says Julie McCullough, student council co-president.The concept of co-presidentwas a first in the organization, but seemed to benefit ratherthan hinder the student council.Homecoming and WinterSports both had twists addedthis year. At Homecoming, thecourt was driven around thetrack in convertibles, instead ofwalking.Winter Sports saw the addition of a Winter Sports King tothe court. Both changes weregreeted positively by parents, faculty, and the student body.Homecoming and WinterSports seemed better this year, more classy than in yearsbefore, noted sophomore KimGoodson. Now students seemto really look forward to nextyears festivities, she said. This year, student councilsupported two fledgling studentgroups, VOICE and STAND.Sophomore Brenna Bodnernoted We realize that the entire reason student council exists is not so much for ourselvesor the faculty or anyone, but forthe students.Part of our job is to see thatevery student is at leastsomewhat satisfied with the fouryears he or she spends atsouth, Junior Alicia Martindalesaid, and we have to be willingto listen. Senior Amy Colemanadded, We feel an obligationto be more than a spiritorganization to the students. One of the Student Councilsjobs was to tally the votes forWinter Sports Queen.
