Description:	>™^^Musicians band togetherAwesome, described thefeelings of the Panther Regiment as they finished justthree points away from advancing to the finals of the Marching Bands of AmericaSouthwest Regional Competition held at Johnson City,Tennessee.The Regiments success wassummarized by Mary Salar-dino, a sophomore, who said,Ill never forget the feelingstepping off the field knowingno matter what the judges haddecided, we had given it ourall.1984-85 marked the Panther Regiments second yearunder Director JonathonGurney.The Regiment practiced sixhours each week throughoutthe summer and fall. Practiceswere described as high-powered learning experiencesby senior Ken Wiesler. Theywere intense, sometimesfrustrating, said senior TomGregory, but once in a whileyou would have that one greatpractice which made it allworth while.Entertaining at halftime during football games enabled theRegiment to practice before anaudience. Too few peopletook the time to listen to us.We were really good, saidsenior drum major LisaCarnegie. However, the gamesbecame an exercise intedium, described the otherdrum major, Zach Smith, also asenior.Sophomore Amy Clendeningfelt, as did many of the Regiment members, that theybecame a caring, concernedfamily. Carnegie summed up,Friendship and love are whatkeep this organizationtogether.Mandatory wild-and-craziness was a trait of thePep Band quipped seniorLaura Jones. Craziness included sunglasses and weird shirts.Often confused with the Panther Regiment, the Pep Band,acted as the spirit section atbasketball games. It allowed \|people from the symphonic,concert, jazz, and marchingbands to play together,stated senior Jennifer East.The Panther Regiment lines up tomarch onto the football field. The Regiment found it helpful to practice beforean audience.Senior Tom Gregory takes a breakfrom practice to display his awards.The Regiments season ended at theMarching Bands of America Regionalcontest scoring three points awayfrom the finals.82 Marching/Pep Bands
