Description: Changes benefit administrators, teachersThe 1982-83 school year broughtseveral changes to South that werebeneficial to both teachers andadministrators. The first of these changes was the addition of a new phone system. TheMonroe County Comunity School Corp.purchased the system rather than renting it, according to assistant principalWilliam Milne. South principal GaryDruckemiller said that several systemshad been considered in choosing the bestone that provided the most services. The phone system was purchasedwith the idea of saving money by owningthe phones. By early spring, according toDruckemiller, the phone system wasalready saving 30 percent each month, compared to previous phone bills. The phones offer many features, including call advancing, direct hook-up,conference calls, call waiting, and callparking. Druckemiller said it is a muchmore efficient system for the schoolsecretaries. The addition of computerization ofgrade cards at BHS South this yearhelped teachers. According to Milne, it isfaster. Dean of students Donald Abramsaid there were fewer errors, becauseteachers got an immediate printout, enabling them to go back and correctany mistakes.Milne feels that in the past few years, the running of the administration haschanged. He said more detailed paperwork has prevented the administrationfrom having time to spend with thestudents. Druckemiller agreed, saying itwas part of the position. He notedthat administrators often have to dopaper work in the evenings and onweekends. One problem that caused the administration many headaches this yearwas the course reductions. Druckemillersaid, however, that the departmentheads were a tremendous help in tryingto achieve minimal course conflicts. While no changes occurred in administrative personnel during 1982-83,Milne retired at the end of the schoolyear.
