After an early 7-7 tie, Ithought we could play with them; but wewere not ready. They were too strongand may have actually been the bestteam in the state, he added.Several Panthers were awarded postseason honors this year. Junior LinChurchill, Souths first running back togain 1000 yards since Tony Helton in1973; senior B-man and co-captain PaulFarmer, who played quarterback; seniorco-captain Bill OMara, who playedtailback; and junior linebacker Joe Stebbins were all named to the All-Conference first team.Junior offensive guard Mark Brauner,senior defensive back Rex Furr, andsenior defensive end John Staggs werenamed honorable mention All-Conference.
