Description: Final bell last day bringsfour faculty retirementsAs the final bell rang on the last day ofschool, four South teachers—Don Francis, Mary Rinehart, Bill Sturbaum, andMarilyn Ziegler—said goodbye toteaching as they retired at the end of the1983-84 school year.Francis, science teacher at South,retired because he wanted to expand hisprivate business. He owns the A-1 TreeService. Francis commented, It was timefor a change.Rinehart, English teacher, is thinking ofattending school. Her main objective,however, is to spend more time with myhusband, she said.She noted that retired life will be interesting because it will be a refreshingchange being a student rather than aARTHUR, Joann: Latin; Greek and Latinderivatives. Janet Ault: learning disabilities. DonBeaver: U.S. history; world civilizations. PeteBellessis: anthropology; departmentchairperson.teacher. This, she said, will give her anew outlook.Sturbaum, social studies teacher, leftBloomington South for a political career;but his main reason for retiring is that 56is a nice age for me to stop teaching, hesaid.Teaching has been wonderful ... Ithas been a positive experience, Sturbaum said.Sturbaum is running for the office ofMonroe County auditor.Ziegler, home economics teacher onleave this year from South, also retiredfrom teaching.All retirees were honored at a MonroeCounty Education Assn. tea, as well asthe South faculty breakfast.BERNHARDT, Joe: biology.
