Description:	Panther b-ballers end successful year 13-This year was successful. We did as well as wethought we could. Everybody played to the best of theirability, and that is what we were looking for.Coach Bill SpringerBill Springers 1979-80 basketball teamclosed out its regular season with an overallrecord of 13-7, which didnt disappointCoach Springer, who commented, We didas well as we thought we could.The team lacked height this year, but thatdidnt stop them from winning games. Ourstrengths would have to be aggressiveness,team offense, and team defense, Springersaid.The Panthers started their season by winning six of their first seven games, losingonly to a tough Seymour team by a one-point margin, 50-49.First the Panthers defeated Edgewoodhandily and then squeaked by ColumbusNorth and lost to Seymour. After that thePanthers ran off a four-game winningstreak, defeating Washington, Rushville,Bedford-NL, and cross-town rival Bloomington North.The winning streak was broken when thePanthers ran into some problems at the Carmel Holiday Tournament, losing twice, firstto West Lafayette (50-41) and then to Franklin (46-45).Coming off these disappointing (the Panthers traveled to Martinsvillethey beat the Artesians 53-49 to reganshaving mug trophy that was lost last)a one-point Artesian win.To close out the regular season,smashed Mooresville 61 -39 to readyselves for sectional play.This years seniors on the varsityGreg Carlson, Chris Clark, Joe F«Steve Moss, Jerry Potts, Dave RechteiJeff Robinson.Everybody played to the bestability, and thats what we were lookingstated Springer.TOP LEFT: Coach Bill Springer discussesa point of apparent disagreement.TOP RIGHT: Greg Carlson attempts awide open lay-up.BOTTOM: Trainer Tom Petry is a big partof South athletics.
