As they empty their lockers, ajunior says he likes the weekends becausethey give him a chance to relax. A sophomore says that without weekends she wouldgo insane. Just how do students spendthese two days of relatively unrestrictedfreedom?Of 792 students surveyed, 449 spend partof their weekends at the Mall, 448 participate in sports, 436 party, 433 go to sportingevents, and 420 go on dates.Most students were reasonably definiteabout what they normally do and dont doon weekends, but some placed restrictionson proposed activities. Sophomore Marianne Owen claimed she goes to partiesonly when invited, and another sophomore said he goes out on dates if Imlucky. Senior Charlie McClary plays tennonly when its not snowing. A junior sashe doesnt cruise because it wastes gas.Although they engage in many of the tr,ditional weekend activities, some studeralso derive particular pleasure from lecommon pastimes: sophomore JonathiGrant likes to play dungeons and draons, junior Bill Paxton enjoys rappellirand spelunking, junior Sarah Salmon sho\her horse around the state, and sophmore Chuck Frommer sometimes worksa disc jockey at radio station WOAX.Other common ways of spending time *weekends include going to concerts; visitifriends; going to church; working; and, ytdoing homework.Sophomore Deana Byrers favorite we€end pastime, however, is probably the mcpopular— generally have a blast!
