We dance toit, relax with it, and do our homework alongwith it. What fun is cruising without the carradio on or partying without the stereo playing?One freshman claims to spend all weekend, every weekend, listening to music; and3 senior says she plays her stereo all thetime. A junior cannot do her homeworkwithout music playing. She prefers to studywith John Denver because his songs aremellow.Though most South students enjoymusic, they have a hard time agreeing ontctly what kind of music is best. Accord-to a poll of approximately 750 students,Barry Manilow is the favorite recording artist, with Billy Joel and Bob Seger running aclose second and third, respectively. Otherfavorites include Kenny Rogers; The Eagles;Earth, Wind, and Fire; Rod Stewart; PeterFrampton; and Ted Nugent.An even wider variety of responses wasnoted for specific songs and albums.Answer ranged from Liszts 19 HungarianRhapsodies, senior Carla Jacksons favorite album, to KISSs Dynasty, sophomoreScott Smiths favorite.Why do students favor a particular type ofmusic or recording artist? Senior Andy Stillions likes Waylon Jennings songs becauseof his voice and the true things he sings.Junior Kathy Rutherford likes Billy JoelsHonesty because its mellow. Sophomore Craig Dalrymple likes SupertramiBreakfast in America because they hea wide variety of excellent songs and its rdisco. Freshman Joe Rousseau enjoBuddy Rich because hes just fantastthe things he does nobody is going toagain.Not all students are that discriminatethough. Senior Amani Ramahi likes anyolwho has good music, and sophomc3Audrey Krakovitz listens to whoeversthe radio.Its not really important what kindmusic you like, said one sophomore, long as it makes you happy.
