Description: Students indulge in self challengeCompetition—a challenge you make notonly with others but with yourself.Office Education Association memberswere involved in national competition. Theyparticipated in the regional contest at Jeffersonville, and regional winners went on tostate competition. The contest was limitedto juniors and seniors.Jody Granich (Accounting I and JobInterview I), Anita Quakenbush (Job Interview I), and Kevin Lambert (Extemporaneous I) all took first places. Nannette Miller(Shorthand II) and Leah Thompson (Prepared Speech II) took second places; JulieClark (Shorthand I), Pauline Mood(Advanced Typing), and Kim Poor (Prepared Speech I) took third places.Four members of the horticulture classand Future Farmers of America wereinvolved in the FFA plant indentificationcontest. The team—Teresa Clay, RitaRoper, Amy and Linda Smith—took a basichorticulture quiz and then identified severaldifferent plants. The plants ranged from thetypical house variety to fruits, vegetables,and trees.The main topic of the first-semesterdebate class was Resolved: that the federal government should institute a programto significantly reduce energy consumptionin the United States. This topic, thenational high school debate topic, was theonly one debated the second nine weeks.Each debate team, consisting of two people, had an opportunity to debate bothaffirmative and negative.
