Description: Students Get Involved In NHSIt was the National Honor Society who sponsored the annual Senior Faculty Volleyball game. And itwas the faculty who stole victoryfrom the seniors in the best threeout of five games. Senior volleyballsquad member Brad White attributed at least part of the faculty winto poor refereeing.Magicians, musicians, singers,dancers, a jazz band combo, plusmany more North students helpedprovide Bloomington with an evening of entertainment in theNational Honor Societys FifthAnnual Talent Show.Add a few bake sales, a pingpong tournament, Christmasbazaar, canned food drive, and aquiz bowl (another contestbetween students and faculty),and you get an active organizationthat provides many services forNorth High School.Money made from these activities is contributed to the libraryand possibly a trip for NHS members.But just what is the NationalHonor Society? As the nameimplies, it is nation-wide and sponsored by the Secondary PrincipalsAssociation of which Mr. Harvey isa member.To belong to the NHS, you musthave a B average or better and 12teacher recommendations in yourjunior year, explains Dr. JamesDiana, sponsor of the NHS alongwith Joan Riddle and Joan Piper.And you must maintain the gradepoint average plus 10 teacher recommendations during your senioryear.The officers for 1980 are NancyRose, president; Liz Byrne, vice-president; Jane Hammel, treasurer, and Marci Endris, secretary.Being an officer is mosty a learning experience, as described byLiz Byrne, it is difficult to lead alarge group, but it has itsrewards, she contends.1) Jung-ln-Rhee, freshman, displayed histalented cello playing the night of theNational Honor Societys Talent Show.Jung has been playing the cello for fouryears, and has performed three concerts with the Bloomington Symphonyas a soloist.2) Pat Wilson, Social Studies teacher,wants us to think she is readying herself for the next serve during the SeniorFaculty Volleyball Game, but we knowshe is really waiting for her deodorantto dry.1683) Jeff Hanna, alias Superman, gets a bit tooexcited as he tries to leap over the net duringthe NHS sponsored V-ball game.
