Description:	North Winners In a 6-18 SeasonThe 1979-80 Cougar Basketballteam witnessed its worst seasonever with a record of 6-18 which isthe worst in the schools history.Just before the season started,the Cougars looked to be strongwith four senior lettermen returningalong with a good bench. But headcoach George Fielding, along withErv Bultman, turned in their resignations. North inherited ex-Southcoach and present North AthleticDirector Bill Frolihger. The Cour-gars got off to a bad start losingnine in a row before beating OwenValley for their first win 65-59. Nextthe Cougars came back for a strongvictory against Brown County 53-48. The Cougars then dropped thenext five before beating Bloomfield61-47, which pushed their mark to3-15. They ended up losing theirlast games to Columbus and Jennings County, respectively.Then came tournament time, ablossoming for Frolihgers team, aman thats seen six sectionalcrowns. North, being the underdogs, was not favored to win, butwent in with confidence and cameout the victor with a 35-33 win.Leading the Cougars in scoring wasJ.C. Hulls with 11. Then came Edge-wood who had beaten North in regular season 67-64. The Mustangs fellto North 40-36, thus leaving Northwith a sectional victory. With an outstanding 21 point performance, J.Hulls was named to the All-Sectionalteam.Next came the regionals atColumbus North, and North facedIndian Creek in the first game. Ledby the scoring of Jeff Hanna and J.C. Hulls, North took Indian Creekstraight to the hoop, winning by thescore of 69-58. The Cougars nowmoved to the final game of theColumbus Regional against SCC foeShelbyville, falling short by fourpoints, 41-37. For their excellentperformances, Jeff Hanna and J. C.Hulls were named to the All-Regional team.The outlook for next years teamseems to be optimistic.
