Description: ^m^$THE BACKBONEOF NORTHDo you remember when you were a freshmanand you got lost on your first day of high schools-Do you remember who helped you get to yourclassroom^-It might have very well been a CougarLeader.Cougar Leaders play an important role in thestudent body. They work hard from thebeginning of the school year to the end, helpingthe freshmen become comfortable at North.Starting in the summer, the first event held byCougar Leaders is Cougar Encounter. Here, theincoming freshmen meet their den, tour theschool, and meet other incoming freshmen. My favorite part of Cougar Encounter iswhen the incoming freshmen first walk in andyou get to meet them and take them to their denclassroom because its their first experience athigh school, said sophomore Cougar LeaderKobe Davis.Once the school year starts, Cougar Leadersmeet with their freshmen in den every week.Every Monday, in den, they do activities, giveadvice, and do grade checks to make sure thefreshmen are staying on top of their schoolwork.I enjoy den because its when we get to check inon the freshmen and help them with theirproblems and schoolwork, said sophomoreCougar Leader Riley Gallagher. Finally, at the end of May, Cougar Leadershave a training day. During their training, they doteam-building activities. Also, every year, a guestspeaker leads these activities and mentors theCougar Leaders on how to be the best role modelfor these freshmen. The training is important because it givesyou a chance to bond with the other cougarleaders and youre able to learn different ways tobe a leader and have a positive and productiveschool year, said Cougar Leader sponsor, Mrs,Sager.120Sophomore Kobe Davis helpsfreshman Hannah McCammonwrite out her schedule forfinals.
