Description: STUDENT MEDIANewspaper Changes Its Looktory by: Catherine Barker and Averyl PerryCurrently, only 23 percent of Americansactually purchase a physical newspaper, and 55percent of the people who read the New YorkTimes read it online. This being said, thepercentage of high school students who willinglypick up a tabloid-type newspaper, or even knowhow to flip through it, is very slim. To catch upith the changing media and publication of news,Norths newspaper, Fused recently created anonline presence. ^p ^rOnline newspapers have emerged in thedigital age, creating a space for stories to bepublished without the hassle of printing anddistributing, while also reducing the cost andenvironmental impact. With the online version we can produce[stories] quickly, Editor-in-Chief Jacob Taylorsaid. With the print version they all have to comeout at the same time, so there would be one or twostudents that were done and had nothing to do, butthis way, once theyre done, they can start workingon something new immediately.Fused has reduced the number of printedissues in order to create a more student-friendlyproduct that more people will be willing to pick upand read. Because a nicer product does cost moremoney and takes a longer time to produce, theywill only be releasing two print versions during the2016-2017 school year, one in November and onein March. The staff has been working to create anice, pristine, classy newspaper to create more ofa presence for themselves at North./
