Bloomington High School North, Nikean, 2017, Page 4

Description: Our World, Our StoriesOur world. Sometimes our worlds seem infinitely small: definedby a few friends, by our school, by Bloomington. Despite this, ourworld extends far beyond these parts of our lives. Our world ismore than the sum of its parts. It is more than just what happensat North. A yearbook should represent more than the years workat school. It should represent the year. The year as it happens inEurope, as it happens in Asia, in Africa, in Australia. The year as ithappens for the students of this school, as well as the year as ithappens for those in our community, our state, our country, ourworld. Our stories. Its hard to encapsulate one year in a few hundredpages, hard to put a three-dimensional life onto a two-dimensionalpage, hard to preserve laughs in still pictures. Thats why it is ourgoal to make the yearbook as filled with our stories as possible, tocreate a book that lives and breathes as we do. This year, we askedyou for your voice. We asked you to share accounts from summertrips abroad, take part in polls about your favorite foods, designartwork for our cover, send us your own writing and photos. Wewanted this yearbook to speak with the words of not just ouryearbook staff, but with the words of every student, so that this isnot just the stories of those who create this book, but all ofour stories.Intersection. Our world and our stories often feel like very separateideas. The trip that we took abroad over the summer seems like ithas nothing to do with what happens in that country after weleave. But this notion is small-minded. We are part of the biggerpicture. This world is ours, and our stories are 1,751 of the 7.4billion stories out there. We are not blips on the radar, notinsignificant people. We matter. So this yearbook is all about theintersection of our world and our stories, how they fit together, theparallel between our schools track star and Usain Bolts medals atthe Rio Olympics. We are the world. And our stories are ours totell, as they fit with what we see happening around us. We cannotlose sight of this connection.
