I really liked doing thebra drive and the idea of doing something so simple and helpingpeople. I thought a club where more people could get involved shouldbe at North.What is Free the Girls?Free the Girls is a non profit organization that uses the selling ofgently warn bras and camisoles to help survivors of human sextrafficking. The women sell these donated bras and it provides themwith a stable and profitable job. Bras are a luxurious necessity in manyunderdeveloped countries around the world- every woman needs onebut not every woman has one. The most importantthing to realize about human sex trafficking is that is happens here. Inthe United States, in Indiana and in Bloomington.What was your overall bra count from the drive over thecourse of this school year?About 900How much money did you raise, and how did you raise it?About $650. We hosted an event at the Neal Marshal Black CulturalCenter to raise money. Tickets were $7, and we had a keynote speakercome and give a talk about human trafficking. We hope to do an eventlike this every year as our fundraiser.Other than this cause, how can people help survivors ofsex trafficking?Becoming aware of sex trafficking and its prevalence in ourcommunity is probably the biggest help. Knowing about it.What is the most important thing to understand aboutsex trafficking?That it happens everywhere, and it is not just adults who are beingtrafficked but children as well.» 54
