tXiks from -HomeLaura Rivera foreign exchange student from Colombia, speaks about her experience in Bloomington. As told to Egla RrashiIn the capital of Colombia, Bogota, I went to a company where you pay (a) certainamount of money and they make all the papers and visa. (Then) they contact othercompanies in the USA for foreign exchange students. When my company in Colombia madecontact with ISE, which is the foreign exchange students company, they paced me in Indianaand they assigned me to a representative localized in Bloomington. My host family consists of five members. My host dad is the pastor of a Pentecostalchurch in Highland Village. My host mom teaches preschool kids and she works in thechurch too. I have two host sisters and one host brother. They have been awesome withme, they are very kind, very comprehensive and they have helped me with everything Ihave trouble with. I love them.(Through this experience), I have learned to be more independent, more mature inthe way of resolving things by myself (and to live in) a new way with completely differentpeople. My best memory has probably been the dinners with my host family. I lovethem because the whole family sits down together and we eat together and talk aboutour day. We dont do things like that in Colombia very often. The experience of being inBloomington) I felt like I was a real and special member of the city. (From this experience Iwill remember) everything! From my host family to my friends to the teachers and staff atNorth. Theyre all unforgettable memories for me. The biggest change for me was trying tocommunicate with everyone. Also, when I first came here, I didnt know anyone, so making new friends and being apart of a group was difficult for me. I do miss (Colombia) a lot, especially my family and mybest friends but I know that all of them are really happy because I got to have an amazingexperience here and became a more mature person, (it) makes my parents very proud ofme.:7:7Things you didnConner Vaaneri.
