u-How do you duys bond as a team?Christine: During school, you know, you get tired, you get grumpy, but then when you go to trackpractice, youre all there for each other and you can really talk about whats going on in your life.Another thing that I think brings us closer together is that we get really silly, because were tired andwe have endorphins going on, and then we start singing and talking about random things, and itsreally fun.Juli: I think one of the things that brings us together is doing our workouts together becausewhether theyre easy or theyre hard, were doing them together, and we really push each other. And I think its really cool because when we stretch out we can talk about the different workouts thatweve done together. Its really cool because we get to do so many different things together and weget to see each other, we get to act crazy, and were always spending time together. We see eachother six days a week for at least two hours, so its pretty cool to be able to spend so much timetogether. We also go to dinners and stuff before track meets, like the days before track meets; wemight go out and do something together, or after track meets we might celebrate a win, or help getover a loss or something. And its really cool to spend so much time together because it helps us get toknow each other in a different way.Amala: I think that one of the big ways we bond as a team is through team dinners. Especially this year, weve been having a few more team dinners with a lot of people on the team, both girls and boys. Weregetting to know everybody on the team and everyone shows their personality that you might not see atpractice.Vhat is the most dffcult part of competing in track?Erin: I think the most difficult part is just getting in the zone to compete and knowing that although someperson youre competing against may have a faster seed time, may have a better PR time than you, justgoing out there and competing against the other people and seeing how much you can improve yourself.Christine: For me in the two-mile theres really a lot of focus that you have to have. Theres eight laps andyou kind of get bored and you get tired and youre like, oh my goodness, how many laps do I really have torun? And for me to be able to focus, well, if Im behind someone I just lock my eyes on them and just dontthink about anything else.Amala: The hardest part about competing, particularly in long jump, is being able to use those good jumpsthat you have and try to keep your PR in mind and stay focused after each jump. But if you have a bad jump, you have to be able to forget about it and remember that you have more chances. You have to really be ableto stay mentally focused because if you let a bad jump get to you, itll just bring down all your other chances.Vhat traditions does the track team have?Leigh: We do a lot of fun things; we dress up together, we have crazy days. And we also do puffypaint T-shirts before the South meet every year and thats a lot of fun; getting to decorate the shirtsand stay after school and have some good drinks together.Vhat makes north track stand out as a prodram?Erin: I think one thing that makes our track program stand out is that we have an amazing coaching staff. CoachClark is back this year, Coach Mitchell, Coach Worthing, we have all these new assistant coaches who are justreally passionate about the program and some of them are alumni from north, which makes it super special. Justhaving these amazing coaches just really improves our program knowing that they know so much about trackthat they can really help us improve. Plus I just think that our program has always just been so big and we havealways had so many girls that are eager to work hard and eager to, you know, go out there and do amazingthings and being unexpected to win big titles.Christine: Also our program is so good because we have so many girls that are so dedicated to the programand really work hard everyday and they are all just super excited in working hard all the time. One of thethings that makes us such a special program is we are one big happy family and we do everything togetherand getting through track, its such a hard sport and being able to get through it together makes us that morecloser and is such a special feeling.Juli: I think something that makes us special is that we are really together and win or loose we are still a teamand we still support each other no matter what if we loose a meet we still have people that have PR, a personPR or a lifetime PR and thats really important because we are united and it helps us make it through anythingthat we do.Amala: I think one thing that makes our program special is our head coach, Coach Mitchel she really putsan emphasis on the team and even though its an individual sport she makes sure that at the end of the daywe win as a team and loose as a team and everyone has their own personal achievements but we are alwayshere for each other.Christine: We all get along well. There are not any cliques. We are together as one family.hink the mosticult part is justgetting in the zone tocompete and knowingthat although someperson youre competing against may havea faster seed time, may have a better PRtime than you, justgoing out there andcompeting against theother people and seeing how much you canimprove yourself.44all get along well.re are not anycliques.
