Description: supporting the -AmericanCanoer Society Walk-a-tkonThis year, the North National Honors Society has become muchmore engaged in the community. In past years, NHS memberswould do community service as individuals; this year, NHSmembers volunteer in groups as an NHS community at community service events across Bloomington. Ultimately, our goal is toserve the community as a community. We want to get membersout, together, making a difference in the lives of people whomthey would never otherwise even have met. Whether it is at aHabitat build, or at the Snowflake Festival, the North NationalHonors Society is committed to making this town a better place, one event at a time. I have been amazed by the generosity ofspirit shown by NHS members, and it has been a true honor tohave had the chance to work with them. In these pictures, we areworking to help out at the American Cancer Societys annual walk-a-thon. NHS members helped to decorate the path for the walkand we made signs to cheer on the walkers themselves. Afterwards, we helped clean up. We played a small part, but the walkwent more smoothly for out participation. It was on a beautifulfall day, and we were out in our community, doing good. I cannotimagine a better way to spend a Saturday morning.-Ben MUitws, 10-1.• This event was important to mebecause my grandma died of breast cancer. It felt really great to go out and cheer onall of the women who were standing up tobreast cancer.-Erin Connor, ll6.m The cancer walk allowed NationalHonor Society members to get participationfor helping out. We started by decorating andputting up signs. Then we were cheerleadersduring the walk and we helped clean up after. We helped motivate a lot of people and wehad a lot of fun. It was a great experience.-Shelby Rush, llThe Breast Cancer walk was an event that symbolized the hope for a cure in our community. Being there and supporting the walkers was a great experience. Many of the walkers,as they passed, would smile and greet you, then say thanks for the support. The best part ofthe walk was decorating the trees and anything else that would be seen with ribbons.-Krynne Taylor, 111toICXD
