Fto^in^GMg^3I was invited by Ms. Sweeney to join the kickballtournament this past week. I thought it would be a greatidea to put together my own team, the Tiger Sharks. Weconsisted of a few football players, some track stars, and two imported players from Ohio. I am all abouthaving fun, and realized that was the reason for thetournament. But, I am a very competitive young man,and was there solely to bring home first place. Though itdidnt go as planned, I had a wonderful time.-Ty Smith, 11Student Council*4***projectsSocial justice is one of Student Councils drivingprinciples and fair trade is a wonderful embodiment of social justice. This year, Student Councilhas switched to using fair trade, organic t-shirts,has supplied fair trade and organic concessionsat sponsored events, sold fair trade Valentines, and held an enrichment on conscious consumerism during tutorial. Next up on our list of goals:getting fair trade coffee and sugar in teacherslounges and fair trade apparel in the bookstore.--Hannah tldkr, IXBook Buddies means a lot to me. Every time weread to the kids, I can see how happy they arethat were there for them. Its great to actuallysee the difference youre making. Every Tuesday Iwake up, excited to get to school because I knowthat at the end of the day I get to read to adorable charismatic first graders. My life is betterbecause of Book Buddies.-yvetfc Philips, 11This project was important to me because itprovided a chance to give something to theschool, an event that would intrigue, engage, and exemplify students. Kickball is a sport thatis not offered as a high school sport and therefore prevented contestants with an unfair advantage. On a personal level, it provided me withan opportunity, an experience to lead, organize, and execute.Haeun Cho and I are starting a language campaign in spring this year to raise awareness onhow our use of language can affect us. Language, from everyday terms to grammar to sentence, initiates, develops, and alters the ways we think, feeland interact. Unfortunately, many of us encounterand use language that touches those around usin negative ways. In beginning our campaign, wehope to initiate an atmosphere of thought andconsideration in our school community.-kkreftth Pelrine, IXt-t- |
