Coming Full CircleA broken boat, cfruriken people and a family that wanted to help was everythingneeded to lead to a chaotic incident. After spotting a nonfunctional boat on LakeMonroe, Senior Tanner Phelps, at the age of 5, and his grandpa decided to go andassist them. Though they thought they were doing an honorable deed, it turned outto have a horrendous outcome.We didnt know the other people were drunk, Phelps said. They put a towinghook on wrong and it came back and hit me in die eye.Phelps was immediately sent to the hospital with a serious injury. Unfortunatelythere were no doctors at Blooming Hospital that could treat Phelps, so he was sentto Indianapolis Methodist Hospital.I spent 4 days there and they started surgery right away, Phelps said. Doctorsduring surgery inserted a sphere. They used that to attach any of the remainingmuscles, veins, nerves that worked and attached them to the sphere.After gaining movement with his fake eye, Phelps began physical therapy andeye exercises to help roll it, close it, etc. Despite the many eye strengtheningappointments, it affected him in a positive way as well.it made me pick the sport I wanted to play and what I want to do. Phelps said. I felt weird.After the surgery, Miller was put on blood thinners to make sure the blood didntclot and he was put on bed rest for a month, because the doctors didnt want him toover exhaust himself. After bed rest Miller had to get back on a normal schedule. Now,Miller is unable to do contact sports because of his surgeryAt first, I was questioning why me?
