However, once the sun sets on high school the reallife dawns. Students all have a different perspective on whatever happens after high school.Some may go to Oxford University and some mayenjoy the local college; some may start jobs right out ofhigh school and some may choose to take time offKim Smith, a senior, has already made a plan for herfuture. She is positive that she will be attending collegebut is unsure about the timing.I really want to go and cant wait to start my collegelife, but theres an issue I have to deal with first, Smithsaid.This issue for many college bound students falls ontheir families financial situation and how they plan oncovering all of their amenities and tuition for four ormore years.My family isnt poor, but the situation is difficult,Smith said. My mom cant provide money and neithercan my dad, theyre at a loss and now because of themoney issue, I cant go to college at the moment. Mysolution is to take a year off from school after Ive gradu-•3-S-5-ated so that I can work to get to college, Smith saiOnce the financial issue is solved and she can enrollin college, Smith already knows what she wants to do.Tm going to major in veterinary medicine and minorin Japanese, Smith said. Tve always loved anirnals, eversince I was litde.Shawn Wasely is a senior who also knows what hewants to do, but is in a similar situation as Smith. He isan aspiring culinary artistTve really come to like cooking and I think it wouldsave money because everyone needs food, Wasely said.I havent had much practice yet, but Im really startingto work now. Sometimes Ill come home and cook dinner for the family.Similar to Smith, Waselys family is struggling withhow hes going to make it into college.Tve been looking for a part-time job for a while now,but its really difficult because no one seems to needany workers right now, Wasely said. Tm hoping towork the summer time so I can have an easier start.Tm mosdy thinking about going to Ivy Tech, Waselysaid. I was also thinking about applying to IU, but thatsjust a possibility.Wasely has taken the SAT by now, a test feared bymost and disregarded by some.The SATs were a litde harder than I expected,Wasely said. It was really nerve-wracking walking intothe room, but then again its like that for most testsanyway.Despite the tests and money are weighing downWasleys chances of going to college, he still expresses astrong excitement for his future education.Tm really looking forward to college actually, Waselysaid. There will be new people to meet, new skills tolearn and Ill finally be able to be completely independent, Wasely said.In the end, Smith and Wasely both have their sightsset high and are determined to meet their goals.I know its going to be rough, and I know Ill have towork hard, Smith said.
