The same frequendy applies to teams; be-I hind any great team is a great coach. A coach is the oneTharing a laugh with a player, consoling a distraught teamafter a loss and uniting a school with a common goal.Every year before we start practicing, [coach Muehlhaus]has us make goals, individual and team senior Ian Shoupsaid. Its a good way to start the season, we want to practicemore and achieve our goals.Shoup says that Muelhaus supports him not only in golfbut also in other aspects of his life., Last year when my dad passed away Muelhaus was very;upportive, Shoup said. He looks beyond just golf. —Muelhaus isnt the only coach providing his players withvaluable advice; coach Thomas Goines also aids members ofthe girls soccer team on difficult matters.I used to get down on myself when I would mess up in agame and he would tell me that Im a good player and thatI should believe in myself even when I messed up, sophomore Paige Strobel said. He said everyone messes up, andno ones perfect,But Goines was not all business; he shared many insidejokes and funny moments with his players.We shared a lot of laughs, sophomore Paige Strobel said..Wed always be laughing about sometiiing stupid I hadsaid. Its just fun to be around him and be goofy.Steve Philbeck, coach of the spell bowl also knows howget a laugh from his team.He brings a lot of energy to [our practices] and makes alot of funny jokes, sophomore Moza Msiska said.I am very tiiankful that Mr. Philbeck is more than willingto reach out to students, Msiska said. Msiska describes thatPhilbeck has an extremely positive affect on the membersof the team.I have never doubted his ability to inspire students tobecome enthusiastic about intellectual [topics], Msiska said.Great coaches see students as much more than just athletes. They are always striving to better their athletes, theirteams and their communities.Muelhaus makes sure were doing well on and off thegolf course, Shoup said.
