Description: Putting in the Timev3 Students describe the time they sacrificewith friends and family for their sports. After frmshing the classes for the day, imagine goingstraight from school to practice, then home to dohomework. Now, imagine coming from classes anddoing two sports, with only a few hours to sparefor homework, dinner and preparation before sleep. Severalstudents are in the midst of this hectic schedule, working tobe acceptional student athletes.Sophomore Kelsey Lawrence is involved in two sportsthat require a lot of time.I do cheer and track, and both are so much fun, Lawrence said. Cheer is in the football season, and that takestwo hours. When its Nationals, practice is four hours. Trackpractice is generally two hours. Thankfully, practices arentback to back that often, but sometimes I need to go straightfrom the meet to practice.| Four to six hours of practice after school may seem like alot of time but Lawrence stays determined. It can get stressful sometimes, Lawrence said, and it canget hard to manage my time, but I love cheer and track!Theyre both so much fun, and I love the people. I try totake study hall every year, and even though its difficult, Itiiink Ill do both again next year, too.Another student, Courtney Baugh, is also involved in twoclub sports.I play tennis and volleyball at the same time whenevertennis season starts, Baugh said. Sometimes Ill have donepractice, and then I will have something to eat, and exactlyafterwards I will be in the car on my way to my next practice.Baugh, like Lawrence, will even practice tennis and volleyball back to back when necessary, and the hours can getpretty long.I go to practice five days a week and I practice for twohours for volleyball, Baugh said. Not to mention one ofmy clubs is up in Indianapolis so thats two hours and thentwo more hours, one hour going up and one hour coming back. Sometimes when practice gets really tough, I willstart at 3 in the afternoon and I wont get home until 11 atnight. The hours are long, but Baugh says that she feels she madethe right choice.I personally tiiink its worth it, despite all the work andtime I have to put in, Baugh said. It pays off, because I loveto do what I do. The block scheduling helps with homework. Plus, I usually do my homework on the bus ride upand back from Indianapolis, which some other kids donthave. The way things are going now, Ill definitely do thisagain next year.Story by Kendra KasparSenior Mattison Truesdelleads a cheer in wintercheerleading tryouts. Itwent pretty smooth,Truesdel said.
