Description: <DCDdevotedSchool vs. SwimmingThe life of a swimmer requires a lot of dedication and focus.During the season, the girls swim team has practice every dayafter school and weightlifting every Tuesday and Thursday before school. With all of the practices and meets, swimmers haveto search for time to do school work. You really need to learn time-management skills, senior Me-ganh Nguyen said.In addition to the biweekly weightlifting sessions, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, swimmers have swim practice at 5:45 a.m.It makes me really tired, senior Celina Nierzwicki said. Itmakes it hard to get through the day because youre not reallymotivated. After school, the swimmers go straight back to the pool, notleaving much time to do homework. On the day of a meet, de-Freshman Emma Mumper anticipates her dive off the block. She believesfammates devotion to one another is best shown through morning^practice, which requires us to get up at around 4:45 on Monday,Wednesday, and Friday during swim season.During the Regional meet, senior Joey Arthurs confidence inhelps him stay focused through the match. He is devoted to wrlbecause he wants to win both for himself and the team. Your jcgo out and get your arm raised - to be named the winner/^liirof said. For senior Jennifer Stumpner, comrfflftent and devotion are two keycharacteristics of the gymnastics sefflsonWWe had three seniors and basically all freshmen, so us seniors had to keep good attitudes to keep theteam going. Its our job to mak«ure the^^shmen understood the timecommitment and supported each other at meets, Stumpner said. She hasparticipated in gymnastics for over 10 years.pending on where it is, some swimmers dont have time to focus onanything except swimming until 1 0 p.m.Despite the lack of time to do homework, swimmers make themost of their teammates, using them for support.Because swimming is a team sport, you learn to work togetheras a team to accomplish (your) goals, Nierzwicki said. When it comes down to it, the swimmers get through it all withthe support of their teammates.(Swimming) is where I met all of my friends, Nguyen said. The friendships made through swimming carry into school wherethey can back one another up.Swimming has made it easier to go through school becauseyou have your teammates there to support you, junior MallorySmith said.by MichaelBoehnlein□ winter sports o 107 n
