Description: I Sophomore Kaity Hoy shoots a warm-up shot before the game againstEastern Greene. Hoy said that in basketball a lot of physical flexibilityis not required, but she still does certain activities to warm up, stay loose, and avoid getting sore during competition. I go on runs, work out, andlift weights to keep strong, Hoy said.2 At the meet against Greencastle, junior Scott Hoover swims the backstroke. Hoover believes that flexibility is an advantageous habit for athletes to maintain. In my day I have to be able to work, have time forfamily, have swim practice four hours of the day, and have time forHabitat for Humanity work, Hoover said.O Freshman Alisha Coon explained how flexibility is a critical aspect ofdancing. It helps you dance better because you can do more moves, she said. Coon enjoys learning different spins and jumps during practicebecause it allows her to be more a well-rounded dancer. Her favoritepart about performing is making facial expressions for the audience....we just thought it wasnever going to end. H HAs the girls gymnastics team filed into the gymnastics room foranother ordinary day of practice, something didnt seem right. They walked into a room with 23 broken floor boards. The team found out that the floor broke awhile earlier, butsomeone neglected to tell them aboutit and, instead, tried to cover up thedamage by putting duct tape overthe damaged boards. If we knew about it before, wecould have done something about it,senior Caelan Forney said.Even though the team was frustrated with the situation, theyhad to start fixing the problem. Each of the gymnasts recruitedanyone they knew who could help with handy work. The work torepair the floor ended up taking over four hours.BUILDING A NEWFOUNDATIONWe just kept finding more broken boards and we just thoughtit was never going to end, Forney said.Once the immediate damage was fixed, the team started toraise money for a new floor. They began passing out flyers for abenefit night at Applebees. Studentsand other supporters could bring theflyer to Applebees, and a portion ofthe proceeds went to the team.In the end, enough money wasraised to repair the current floorand acquire a new floor for nextyear. Even though the team couldnt practice their floor routinesfor a time, they could use their team efforts to build a new foundation - in more ways than one.by MahaElsarraga winter sports n 99 p
