Description: In Memory of Dr. Marty LeeShe died in her middle forties, however she accomplishedand shared more than mostwould in 80 years. This in itselfis a key to Dr. Lees personality. Time and the use of timewas a most cherished item toher. Her theme was to striveto be the very best at whatevershe undertook, whether that beof a professional nature or sharing her skills with other humanbeings. Her message to studentswas to strive for the very bestand she offered a framework inwhich to structure their progresstowards this end.She was a woman whoadmired those who dared todream, and would giveunselfishly of her time to assistpeople in reaching for theirgoals. Marty, as she wasmore commonly called by herfriends, was a Masterteacher and a very warm individual who was as comfortablewriting books as cooking in thekitchen. She was a person ofdiverse interests who could puther whole heart in whatever shewas focusing in on at the time.She wrote several trade booksbetween 1967 and 1972.During this time she alsoexpanded her hobby of antiquing . She had one of the finestcollections of primitive inthe United States. In the summers she would cross the UnitedStates in pursuit of antiques.She was a patient woman asevidenced by her desire for aparticular butter mold. Shelooked for 15 years for thisbutter mold. The same kind ofpatience was given to both students and friends alike.Dr. Lee spent a great deal ofher professional life at the middle school level and did notstart teaching at the senior highlevel until 1973. She alsoserved as a professor at IndianaUniversity in the evenings.She never married, howeverher family of friends and students loved and were loved asonly a warm loving familywould understand. She lived inan apartment that was filledwith antiques, books, good foodand love. Her door was open aswas her heart.She has left us in a physicalsense, however her gifts to students and friends will be usedand treasured for a lifetime.86
