BothScott and junior Ashley Baughman competed in a national bakingG00D£?7<£Juniors culinary ambitions give rise to more than doughJunior Ashley Baughman first developed an interest in baking during her Tri-North Family and Consumer Science class. Herpassion for cooking has since helped her land a job at a bakery,acceptance to an exclusive camp, and early admission into thetop cooking school in the nation — Johnson and Wales University.During her freshman year, Baughman enrolled in Nutrition andWellness where she mastered the skills to take Advanced Nutrition and Wellness. Baughman is currently in Culinary Arts andProfessional Baking — a course that requires her to prepare afull meal once a week for the Dew Drop Inn.We serve it to the administration and to people around thecommunity, Baughman said.Baughman didnt gain all her baking knowledge in school. Sheput in countless hours over the 2008 summer working at the localbakery Angel Bs. Baughman considers her job that summer tohave been the most difficult aspect of baking.I made up recipes and then I baked them, Baughman said. Ididnt even know I was going to get a paying job.Baughman then attended the week-long Johnson and Walesexploration camp in Rhode Island.I had to write an essay saying why I should be allowed toattend, Baughman said.With her acceptance into the program, Baughman became oneof 20 people accepted into the camp.I received a top priority placing at Johnson and Wales because of the camp, and I received half off my tuition, she said.Baughman will be leaving for Rhode Island in August of 2009to attend the school.They offer a program there for juniors to come a year earlyand I was offered a position there, Baughman said.Despite the fact that she will be a 1 6-hour car drive awayfrom Bloomington, her friends, and family, Baughman is excitedfor her future at Johnson and Wales.Its a great opportunity and Im ready.by AileenDriscoll$35/galSound outrageous?
