Description: THIS IBELIEVEA typical Friday for senior Elan Sapir is anything but average. His practice of Judaism requires him to stay home every Friday night forthe Day of Contemplation, the weekly holidayand the highest holiday of the Sabbath. From sundown on Friday until three starscan be seen on Saturday night, he has to stayinside. While some may find it difficult to resistother weekend activities, Sapir remains committed to his Jewish tradition. Its not hard, Sapir said. Its who I am andthe way its always been.Sophomore Fatima Fadag is dedicated tothe Islamic religion and honors holidays such asRamadan. During this time, she is required tofast for 30 days from sun up to sun down, soshe doesnt eat in the cafeteria.Yet, she said her religion doesnt have amajor impact on her high school life. Its pretty normal for me, Fadag said.Being the daughter of a Methodist pastor isthe lifestyle of junior Neena Armitage. Its really interesting. My dad, since he wentto Divinity School, has an opinion on everyreligion, Armitage said.Being a pastors kid, as Armitage calls it,does not affect her behavior or work in school.Im very crazy and enthusiastic at school justlike I always am, she said. However, it does affect her job. She worksas a secretary at the Southern Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, which isaffiliated with the church. When I am at work, I conduct myself a lot(more calm) and focused, Armitage said.At one point her dad preached at three different churches all in one Sunday.Driving across town in my Sunday dressused to drive me crazy, Armitage said. Whenwe got to the church, once again I would beambushed by the congregation, smothered inhugs and tons of people saying oh dont youlook lovely.Since her father is a pastor, she has thoughtabout being a pastor herself.I eventually decided against it because ofthe underlying deceit that is included with thechurch and the community, Armitage said.
