Description: eougar Leaders are students whovolunteer to help the years incomingfreshmen to have a better year. Theyparticipate in things such as CougarEncounter, which is an event in thesummer to welcome freshmen to the school andshow them around. They also help out with Eighth Grade ParentNight where the incoming freshmen come withtheir parents to meet with people from differentclubs and classes along with the administration. For sophomore Steffanie Nelson, becoming aCougar Leader was a way to get involved and bea leader within the school.Sophomore Alexis Peneff said she wanted tobecome a Cougar Leader because she wantedto experience helping other people.I like how I get to interact with people, she said. There are also students like senior AndrewCornwell who just became a Cougar Leaderbecause it would improve college resumes. Notonly does it help with college resumes, but youalso start to enjoy being a Cougar Leader.I like meeting new kids and being able to helpthem out, Cornwell said. This year there were some changes to theprogram. The major change was that the Seminar schedule was switched from having homeroom once a week on Fridays to twice a week onTuesdays and Wednesdays. On Tuesdays, students attend Cougar Denwere they arent allowed to leave the room andWednesday is Cougar Prowl and students areallowed to leave to take tests and make up work. For some, helping the freshmen out withlearning the schedule was harder because theCougar Leaders were also getting used to theschedule. It was pretty difficult not knowing how the dayswere supposed to work and trying to teach freshmen how the days worked, Cornwell said. Itwas different, but do-able.T3y Christa Higgins186 cougar leaders
