T-shirts and buttons promoting the event were sold.This, however, was no ordinary rock concert. This wasNorthstock, Norths musical tribute to the famous Woodstock and one of the principal fundraisers held by thisyears student council.Northstock was an AIDS benefit concert held at theNorth auditorium. Five local bands, Clockwork, ElephantQuiz, Xenosound, Pariah, and South Jordan, played atthe event. The concert helped raise money for PositiveLink, a local establishment that provides free or low costservices to people with AIDS.We chose Positive Link because the work they doreally does impact our community, junior and studentcouncil co-president Mailyn Fidler said. The lady whocame in and talked to us had three people die in Novem-Student Council members work onplanning an event during a meeting.Senior Cheyenne Kollum (near right)says this has been her favorite yearon Student Council. Positive Link makes a difference.During the actual concert, the five bands performed andsenior Chris Ogle and junior Patricia Rochell rapped andsang between sets.Everyone loved them, especially [Ogle], who wrote arap specifically for the occasion, Fidler said. PositiveLink also talked between songs. They explained how themoney we raised would help them and handed out pamphlets about AIDS prevention.This is the first year that Student Council organizedthe event; usually Bread for Bloomington or Habitat forHumanity operate Northstock.Despite being new to planning Northstock, Fidler stillbelieves that the event was a success.We sold a lot of pins and t-shirts, and we were able togive Positive Link a $1,500 donation, Fidler said.L>i/ Zoe U ithered182 student council |
