I youth group.Youth group is just a way to get together withother kids, do things for the community, and alsoto learn about our religion, Shifriss said.Shifriss youth group also involves a coupleof other North students. These students includejunior Eric Kamen and senior Naama Levy. Levyis the social action vice president of their youthgroup. She helps plan some of the activities andfundraisers the group does.Shifriss said that some of the things she hasdone with her youth group include going to thesynagogue on Christmas to serve food to thehomeless. They have also participated in a fundraiser called Nothing but Nets, which is wherethey raise money to send mosquito netting to thepeople in Africa to fight malaria.Right now, our youth group is raising moneyfor Saint Jude [Childrens Research Hospital],Levy said.Kamen said that the youth group hangs outand does different things together within thecommunity.The youth group is another way to interact inthe teenage Jewish community, Kamen said.Some of the teens, like Shifriss and Levy, arepretty involved in the youth group. However,Shifriss said that it isnt mandatory that you areas involved as she is.Shifriss likes being involved in her youth groupbecause it gives her a sense of fulfillment.Helping others makes me feel good and alsodefinitely gives basis on what is needed later inlife, Shifriss said.
