His youngerbrother Tucker Anthis, who is currently an 8thgrader at Tri-North, is the one who got himinterested in the sport.Anthis started bowling in the youthleague at Classic Lanes a year ago anddecided to pursue his interest thatformed. He shoots around with theschool team two days a week, buttries to make it to Classic or Suburban at least once on his own.Anthis said football is his passion, butinjuries and an upcoming shoulder surgerywill limit his chances of playing in College. However, there are scholarship opportunitiesfor bowling.Ive gotten offers to play football, but a lot ofpeople have told me to pursue my natural talent inbowling, Anthis said. With the game of bowling like any other sport comesthe equipment. You need shoes, a ball, a towel, and chalk.Anthis wears shoes by Dexter and carries three different ballsin a large rolling bag. His favorite brand of balls are producedby a company called Storm. The one that he is currently using iscalled virtual energy; which has black, green and gold swirls. They are known for the scents that they put in the balls, my favoriteis the one that smells like pears and berries. Its like walking into Bathand Body Works, Anthis said.Anthis isnt convinced that the ball can do everything. He buys balls thatgive out a lot of spin but its all how he conducts the throw himself. By turning his hand the wrong way there is always a chance of a mistake. Control isthe key to Anthiss success.Ive never had a perfect game...Ive bowled a 267, close but Im still in needof a lot of practice, Anthis said.During practice he, along with the two available coaches assist the membersthat are the newest to the sport. His biggest accomplishment as a bowler wasranking in the top five in the high school league.Im the anchor on the team. Thats usually where you put your best man. Its sothat if were down I can help boost our overall score. The anchors are usually theclean up crew, Anthis said.Anthis plans to attend either Indiana University of Weber University, where hehopes to gain a spot on the bowling team.94
