inding their focusTeam bonds through wiffleballWanting to end their high school careers on a high note, the seniors took achieving success into their own hands. Takingthe focus off of individual statistics and putting stress on team efforts, the seniors used their experience to bring the teamtogether and better the teams overall play.Last year, we were sloppier, junior Thomas Walsh said. We made a lot more mental mistakes, not physical ones. Wehad a lot of talent, but we werent a team. With increased team effort and focus on togetherness, the team stressed bonding and peer tutelage to better their skill. This years seniors really helped us get stronger mentally and theres a much stronger sense of team, Walsh said.It was the seniors who carried on the growing tradition of playing wiffleball after team dinners.Theyre hardcore, junior Broderick Schmitz said of the wiffleball tournaments. All four of our coaches join in. We alltake the series very seiously; we dont play around.Every Friday evening prior to Saturdays doubleheaders, the team gathers at a players house for a team dinner and agame of wiffleball. At the beginning of the season we divided the baseball team in two and Gant Elmore and I (the wiffleball captains)drafted players, senior Jake Morrow said. After the teams are picked, the five-game tournament commences. Its intense, Morrow said. Were all very competitive and play (wiffleball) like its a real game. When you lose, thewhole rest of the nights a drag. Thanks to newfound camaraderie, however, the losing boys dont have to suffer alone.Wiffleball has definitely brought us closer together, Morrow said.by Joy Msiska The Scorewas•••vs. finalLinton W10-0Ravenna W19-3Northview W12-7Edgewood L 8-10ColumbusNorth L 3-7BloomingtonSouth W8-7Eastern W10-0Pike L 4-6Perry MeridianChatard DH L 10-11W7-5Shakamak W13-7Franklin DH W9-3L6-9FranklinCentral W 8-3Southport W16-4Martinsville DH W 7-3L7-9LawrenceCentral W19-7Columbus East W5-2Floyd Central W 8-3Jeffersonville L1-3Terre HauteNorth W 7-5Owen Valley W9-3Brown County W 8-6Mooresville W 4-3SectionalColumbusEast W7-1BloomingtonSouth W4-1ColumbusNorth W 6-5RegionalTerre HauteSouth W 7-4Semi-StateV Noblesville LO-6J(Top left) Senior Nick vonFoerster steals thirdbaseagainst Terre Haute North.(Bottom left) Junior DanielJackson follows through witha pitch.
